Overview

The Star Micronics TSP100 range comes with multiple connectivity options, iOS lightning, LAN, WiFi and Bluetooth. In this guide we will cover some of the main issues experienced and how to carry out troubleshooting of printing issues.

Confirm Connection

Bluetooth for iOS: Go to Settings > Bluetooth and pair the printer.

LAN: Connect the printer directly to your router or switch. Turn the printer on while holding down the feed button. The printer will print internal settings and IP address information. Look at the bottom three lines of the second receipt, If you get IP address “0.0.0.0 did not obtain”, then go to “LAN IP address issues” at the bottom of the document.

Apple Lightning USB: For iOS you will need to use the Apple lightning cable and then connect it into the special lightning port on the back of the printer and connect it also into the iOS device.

Test Connectivity

Please use the Star Micronics “TSP100III Utility” app which is available from the App Store for testing. Use the following procedure to check connectivity:

  1. Download the TSP100III Utility app
  2. Run the app.
  3. Select “destination device”.
  4. Select your printer in the list
  5. Press apply, and you will be sent back to the main TSP100III utility menu.
  6. Press “Printer Test” to print.

Printer not turning on

  1. Check the kettle lead cable being used is connected into the wall
  2. Check the power switch on the wall socket.
  3. Check the switch on the side of the printer, all TSP100III printers have a power switch on the side.
  4. Change the kettle lead for another one if you have one and check again.

Check lights on printer for errors

Check the lights and display on the printers to see they are functioning correctly. If there are errors check these against the printers instruction manual.

LAN IP address issues

If you are having issues getting an IP address check the following:

On the bottom of the printer there is a small panel with 4 dip switches, see this image below:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Open the panel which is shown in the above diagram, you will see 4 dip switches behind this.
  3. Change dip switch 3 to OFF to disable DHCP timeout.
  4. Put the panel back on.
  5. Hold down feed and turn the printer on. Do you get an IP address, if the answer is no, then follow the instructions shown in “Extended Tests”

Extended Tests

  1. Check the printer is connected directly into a switch or router, if it is connected to a switch then disconnect it, move it closer to the router and connect it in. Do a self test(turn the printer off, hold down feed and turn the printer on) check if you have an IP address.
  2. Make sure your DHCP server is enabled in your router/switch.
  3. If you have any issues go directly to the primary network device(router) and wire it in bypassing all your network connections and then work down until you identify the part which is not issues the ip address. For example Router > switch > patch panel > etc.
  4. If the above still does not work, try it on a different network router.

Reset Ethernet/WiFi Settings (& Remove Static IP address)

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Remove the panel on the bottom of the printer.
  3. Change DIP switch 4 to OFF.
  4. Turn the printer on.
  5. Turn the printer off.
  6. Change dip switch 4 to ON.
  7. Hold down feed and turn the printer on.
  8. This should clear the IP address, you can confirm this by going to the bottom of receipt 2 and seeing the IP address it should list (DHCP) at the end of the IP address.
