Overview
Use categories to group similar items for reporting. There are 2 levels to categories. Every category must have one or more sub-categories associated with it.A restaurant may set up their categories like: - Drinks
- Red Wine
- White Wine
- Hot Drinks
- ...
- Food
A clothes store may set up their categories like: - Mens
- Jeans
- Hoodies
- T-Shirts
- ...
- Womens
- Jeans
- Hoodies
- T-Shirts
- ...
Categories are predominately used for reporting - so you can compare your Food sales to your Drink sales, or your Hot Food sales to your Cold Food sales.Every item in your inventory must be assigned to a category. You can create as many categories as required to suit your reporting requirements.Creating categories
- Navigate to: Settings -> Configuration -> Reporting.
- To add a new category click the "+ Add New" button at the bottom of the categories list.
- In the popup box, enter a name for your category and press the "Save..." button.
- To add a new sub-category click the "+ Add New" button below our newly created category.
- In the popup box, enter a name for your sub-category and press the "Save..." button.
Editing categories
You can rename a category at any time. In the categories list, click on the edit icon next to the category you wish to rename.Deleting categories
You can delete a category as long as no items are linked to it. In the categories list, click on the delete icon next to the category you wish to delete. You will need to delete all sub-categories before deleting a category.[ht_message mstyle="info" title="Top Tip" show_icon="" id="" class="" style="" ]Keep it simple - over complicating your categories can become confusing and add little benefit when it comes to reporting. You can always add new categories in the future if you need more detail.[/ht_message]
